Conqueror Blog Tour: Author Interview with Beach-Loving Mandy Fender

Happy book release day, Mandy Fender!

I am so thankful to be sharing such a wonderful book, friends. It was incredibly powerful and encouraging as well as thought-provoking, inspiring, tissue-grabbing, and… Should I keep going? *winks*

To say the least, this story is awesome and I strongly recommend it! Thankfully, book one and two are FREE on Amazon today!

Yes! They’re free and you should totally go snag them before this interview with a beautiful author.

However, if you want to stay and read my chat with Mandy first, I’m totally down with that too (just don’t forget to get your free ebooks!).

Grab a blanket and a few pillows for my exciting chat about things Mandy enjoys doing, her Defier series, and what’s next for her in the writing world.

About the Book

The Final Battle is on the Horizon . . .

Still heartbroken over the loss of her best friend, Sky, Lennox must face her own demons as she continues to fight against Ahab and the Regime. She now serves as a combat medic on the field, searching desperately for survivors in war-torn America. But as the Regime grows stronger and begins to genetically enhance both humans and animals, she questions whether she and her fellow Sparrows are doing enough. After an encounter with a Prowler changes everything, she must choose between vengeance and faith in God because the next mission she goes on could be her last.

When all hope seems lost, will she still stand?

Let’s Chat!

– Hi Mandy! I am SO excited to have you on my blog! For those who don’t know you, can you share three words to describe yourself?

Hi, Laura! Thanks for having me! Three words to describe myself: Happy, Introverted, and Kind (ßat least I hope I am, haha! I really try to be. ;))

On a more practical note: Christian, Wife, Mom also describe me quite well. <3

– Love that, friend! 😀 You mention on your website that you write with “Christ in mind.” I absolutely love that and am curious what got you into writing? Did you imagine being a writer growing up?

Yes, everything I write is with Christ in mind because He is the reason I am who I am and I can’t just cut that part out of my writing. Being a Christian shapes my entire life. I started out writing creative non-fiction, so I guess that was a gateway into my love for fiction. I have always been a reader and love a good story. I never imagined I would write a novel though, let alone a series! But I am so glad I have! It has been a dream to write books ever since I was little. I remember begging my mom for this awesome blank-paged journal that looked like a book because I imagined all the beautiful stories I could write! I still have it to this day and keep it in my office as a reminder of my childhood imagination.

– So inspiring and thankful that you write with Christ in mind. Your Defier series truly reflected that. 🙂 I am curious as to what are some other things you enjoy doing outside of writing? Reading? Sewing? Hanging out awesome beaches with your family? 😉

Ah! I love to read and books I read range from biographies and memoirs all the way to clean romance to anything YA. My bookshelves are all over the place!

I value family time, so anytime with them is like pure gold. Right now, we are watching one of our old favorite shows as a family (Lost) and it’s intense. I am a big movie fan and again my taste ranges from scifi to romcoms to war movies, which Dunkirk was the last one I watched and it touched my heart! Give me a good movie and some Simply Salted popcorn and I am good to go!

Haha, and beaches…I love them! I used to want to be a marine biologist so all that stuff intrigues me. AND…one of my dreams is coming true and in January of next year I get to swim with manatees! (Sometimes my friends call me Mandatee LOL) so I will post pics on my Author page for you guys. <3

– Oh my goodness, I love all these things too! <3 Also, I can’t wait to see the pic of you swimming with manatees next year! That’s going to be so cool. Let’s talk about Conqueror for a moment. This is the last book in the Defier series. How does that feel knowing readers will have the conclusion?

Exciting and terrifying! *bites nails* I always knew how the series was going to end so for me it was never a surprise or question. Now I am just eagerly awaiting my readers’ responses. I hope it does the entire series justice!

– It was a powerful ending! I definitely felt it did the series justice. 😉 I’ve heard on numerous occasions that most authors can’t choose a favorite character, BUT I wonder who you would want to hang out with for a day. Who’s the lucky character to hang out with you? What would you guys do?

Ahhhh! Such a hard question. I think I would want to hang out with Sky. He’s the type of guy that would be fun to go on a grand adventure with or just hang out doing normal stuff around town. Hmm…we could go whitewater rafting or go to the range for target practice or on an amazing nature hike. P.S. I secretly want to be more adventurous. When I was a kid, I would do ANYTHING. I even snorkeled in the middle of the ocean near the Bermuda Triangle when I was 10/11 (what were my parents thinking!?!) so I would want to hang out with Sky because I feel like he would do those things without a second thought and it would be so much fun. Of course, if the world was ending, he would be the one I want around too because, well, you’ll see in Conqueror some of the epic things he can do. 😉

– YES! I would love to hangout with Sky, too! He’s just a great guy and definitely one of my favorite characters. 🙂 What would you do if you were suddenly transported to the world of the Defier series?

Honestly, I have thought about this and I would love to say that I would join the Sparrows and fight the Regime with everything I got. I know, for sure, that I would be a Defier and be a part of sneaking other Defiers to safety. I’ve always admired the men and women who made the Underground Railroad possible during tragic times in America and hope that I would have the courage to do something like that for fellow Christians in the world of Defier.

– Hurrah, Mandy! I’m joining you too! 😀 Lastly, what’s in store next for readers? 🙂

Ohhhhh, big things, I hope! I have an amazing Christian fantasy standalone novel that I have started to work on and hope to work more on it during Nanowrimo! It’s going to have romance, vicious creatures, and an epic quest to find a King who has long been lost. More to come on that in the future! Anyone can follow my progress through my newsletter and social media sites.

– Can’t wait to hear more about it! Thanks so much for chatting with me Mandy! 😀
